San Valentin

Yes Valentine’s Day can be seen as a “Hallmark Holiday” and overly commercialized. And although we should show love and friendship to those around us every day, it is nice to be surrounded by it and celebrate it on one particular day. To celebrate at the school, the students each made a valentine.

We had a lesson about the history of Valentine’s Day and read some typical American valentine messages like, “Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Sugar is Sweet, and so are You.” Each student got to choose a valentine design to color and write their own message. They wrote them in Spanish and then Mario (the English teacher I’m working with) and I helped translate them into English. They were very sweet and I was so pleased with the activity.

We made a Valentine’s Day wall display in the stairway and put up all the valentines and messages.
Take a look!
